From Selena Gomez to David Henrie, here is what the Wizards of Waverly Place cast is doing now — careers, families and the Disney+ reboot Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

It has been more than a decade since the Russo family closed the doors of the Waverly Sub Station, but the Wizards of Waverly Place cast never really left the spotlight. With Disney+ rebooting the franchise as Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, fans are revisiting the original 2007–2012 series and asking the inevitable nostalgic question: where are they now?

Here is a then-and-now look at the main cast — what they have done since the show ended, and where you can see them today.

Selena Gomez — Alex Russo

Then: The rebellious middle child Alex Russo turned Selena Gomez into one of Disney Channel's biggest exports.

Now: Selena is arguably the most successful Disney alum of her generation. She fronts the cosmetics empire Rare Beauty, stars in Hulu's Emmy-nominated Only Murders in the Building alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short, and released the chart-topping album Rare. She also produced and reprised Alex Russo in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place (Disney+, 2024–present), bridging the original series and the new generation of wizards.

David Henrie — Justin Russo

Then: The responsible older brother and reluctant wizard champion.

Now: David Henrie returns as a series regular and executive producer on Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, where Justin is now a husband and father mentoring a new young wizard. Off-screen he directed the family film This Is the Year (produced by Selena Gomez) and the faith-based biopic The Manzanos. He married Maria Cahill in 2017 and the couple have three children.

Jake T. Austin — Max Russo

Then: The youngest Russo sibling and accidental sandwich-magnet.

Now: Jake voiced Diego in Go, Diego, Go! before Wizards, and after the show wrapped he joined ABC Family's The Fosters as Jesus Foster for two seasons. More recently he has appeared in independent thrillers like The Last Champion and Adverse with Mickey Rourke. He keeps a lower public profile than his on-screen siblings but continues to take indie film roles.

Jennifer Stone — Harper Finkle

Then: Alex's loyal, fashion-eccentric best friend.

Now: In one of the more surprising post-Disney pivots, Jennifer Stone became a registered nurse. She worked the front lines of a Los Angeles emergency room during the COVID-19 pandemic, a story she shared widely in 2020. She returned to acting for Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, reprising Harper, and co-hosts the rewatch podcast Wizards of Waverly Pod with David DeLuise.

David DeLuise — Jerry Russo

Then: The dad, sub shop owner, and former wizard who trained his kids in magic.

Now: David DeLuise has stayed busy with guest spots on NCIS, Hawaii Five-0 and Bones, and is a fan-convention regular. He returned as Jerry Russo in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place and is one half of the official rewatch podcast with Jennifer Stone.

Maria Canals-Barrera — Theresa Russo

Then: The grounded Russo matriarch holding the family (and the sub shop) together.

Now: Maria has continued voice work — including the long-running role of Hawkgirl in DC animation — and appeared in Hallmark Channel features such as Holiday Hideaway. She also returns as Theresa in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

Gregg Sulkin — Mason Greyback

Then: Alex's British werewolf boyfriend introduced in season three.

Now: Gregg Sulkin built a steady post-Disney career: MTV's Faking It, the Marvel series Runaways on Hulu where he played Chase Stein, and Apple TV+'s Pretty Smart. He is a fixture on the LA acting scene and frequently reunites with former co-stars on social media.

Bridgit Mendler — Juliet van Heusen

Then: Justin's vampire girlfriend — and later her own Disney Channel star on Good Luck Charlie.

Now: Bridgit Mendler made one of the most unexpected career pivots in Hollywood history. After stepping back from acting, she earned a law degree from Harvard, a PhD candidacy at MIT, and in 2023 became co-founder and CEO of Northwood Space, a startup building ground stations for satellite data. She is one of the most genuinely fascinating "where are they now" stories of the entire Disney Channel era.

The Reboot: Wizards Beyond Waverly Place

Disney+ launched Wizards Beyond Waverly Place in October 2024, with Selena Gomez and David Henrie reprising Alex and Justin and Janice LeAnn Brown joining as Billie, a young wizard placed in Justin's care. The show has already been renewed for a second season, signaling that the Russo family magic still has serious pull with both nostalgic millennials and a new generation of Disney+ viewers.
